The Yitzhak Rabin Center for Israel Studies is dedicated to commemorating Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and examining the lessons for Israeli society to be learned from his assassination. The center fosters a culture of democratic politics based on moral and social norms that promote tolerance and equality and promotes a message of peace to help create a climate conducive to a new national consensus in Israel. Avi D. Pelossof is the chairman of the Friends of the Yitzhak Rabin Center for Israel Studies, a not-for-profit organization, whose goal was to establish the center and who is currently concentrating on raising funds in Israel and abroad for the expansion of the center's activities. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is Israel's most significant orchestra and one of the world's leading orchestras, comprised of and playing host to some of the world's greatest musicians and most reputable conductors. Two conductors particularly associated with the orchestra are maestro Zubin Mehta who serves as the orchestra's Music Director, and maestro Leonard Bernstein, who was named the orchestra's Laureate Conductor in 1988. TALI is an education fund sponsored, among others, by the Ministry of Education of Israel. The main objective of the fund is to provide a tolerant approach to Jewish instruction as an alternative to both secular and Orthodox curricula. The fund is devoted to a deeper, more extensive and meaningful Jewish education and implements an Enriched Jewish Studies Program offered in Israel's non-Orthodox public schools. Mr. Itay Hacohen is actively involved in TALI's activities and is a member of a committee that selects on a yearly basis an "outstanding TALI school principal" to whom the Doborah and Shraga Genger Prize is awarded for successfully translating TALI theory into practice. "Halev Bamishpat" is a project supported by the Movement for Fighting Poverty in Israel. The main objective of the project is to coordinate the provision of legal services to the indigent and disadvantaged, who otherwise would not have access to legal representation. Through this project attorneys and law students may assist such individuals throughout the country by rendering legal services on a voluntary basis in various practice areas such as criminal, constitutional, administrative, labor, housing and consumer law. Yad Sharah, the largest voluntary organization in Israel, provides a spectrum of free or nominal cost services designed to make life easier for sick, disabled and elderly people and their families, such as the lending of medical and rehabilitative equipment on a short-term basis free of charge to anyone who needs it, transportation and day care centers for the disabled, minimum-charge dental clinics for the elderly and personal computerized emergency alarms monitored 24 hours a day. |
